David Matthew Mauzy November 23, 2006 – July 25, 2026. David Matthew Mauzy, a deeply loved son, brother, grandson, and friend, passed away far too soon on July 25, 2026, at the age of 19.
Born on November 23, 2006, David lived his life with a rare and beautiful intensity, packing an incredible amount of hard work, passion, and generosity into his young years. David was an exceptionally talented musician whose soul belonged to his guitar. His outgoing personality shone brightest on stage, where he poured his energy into playing in three to four different bands. Music was not just a hobby for David; it was a way to connect, express himself, and share his vibrant spirit with his friends and the world around him. In his professional life, David carried that same relentless work ethic into his career as a union carpenter. He took immense pride in his craft, earning the respect of his peers for his dedication and skill at such a young age. Beyond his talents and career, David will be remembered most for his fiercely caring heart.
He was an inherently loving and giving person who looked out for others. This spirit of service led him to volunteer with B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse), dedicating his time to protecting and uplifting vulnerable children. David’s presence was a gift to everyone who knew him. He loved his friends deeply, brought joy into every room he entered, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and unforgettable music. He is survived by his loving mother, Julie Mauzy; his father, Christopher Yates; his sisters, Tosha and Hannah; his grandmothers, Peggy Mauzy and Carolyn Yates; his grandfather, Charles Smith; and a large, loving family of numerous aunts, uncles, and friends who will miss him beyond measure.
VISITATION: Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Michel Funeral Home 5930 Southwest Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63139 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
SERVICES: Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Michel Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.
Interment: Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Met David through his great uncle Charlie, my best friend when David was only 9. Taught him a few chords and a few songs on the guitar a little later. Wow, what he could do with a guitar. David was all that and more in his obituary. Heaven is a little brighter now with his presence.
