Lowell (Fred) Ahrens, 78, of Columbia, IL, originally of Valmeyer, IL, died February 13, 2021. He was born July 16, 1942 in Valmeyer, IL. He is the son of the late Russell and Alice (nee Steinmann) Ahrens. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Randy Ahrens.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn (nee Johner) Ahrens. They were married Jan 18, 1964 in Valmeyer, IL. He is also survived by his children Andy (Bonnie) Ahrens, Vicki (Slugger) Rednour and Kristine (Chris) Voelker, and grandchildren Ashely (Mike) Reno, Marly Ahrens, Jolie Ahrens, Kyle Kipping, Chelsey Kipping, Markee Voelker and Ripken Voelker, as well as siblings Katy Yarbrough and Dwight (Cheryl) Ahrens, along with sisters in law, brothers in law, nephews and nieces, and one very spoiled cat named Rockie.

A former Valmeyer village board trustee, fireman, charter member of the Valmeyer Area Jaycees, and Shriner, Lowell had a very active life. He enjoyed camping, boating, riding (and fixing) his Harley, working on any engine that came his way, a good game of pool, and even
coaching a womens’ softball team.

He truly enjoyed his family and friends. Freddy could light up a room (or a bar) when he walked in – he could also clear one out. He was able to watch his 7 grandchildren grow and flourish and saved some of his brightest, if not rare, smiles for his time with them.

A celebration of life will be held on June 19. Details will follow.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to the Valmeyer Area Jaycees.

ARRANGEMENTS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MICHEL FUNERAL HOME.
