Melvin Paul Jenkins, 79 of House Springs, MO, died Monday, February 22, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis due to heart complications.
He was born September 25, 1941, son to John and Mary (Kritzon) Jenkins of St Louis MO.
Mel is remembered by all who loved him as a truly fun and cheerful person to be around. He always had kind words to give or would extend his help to anyone in need, at any time. His most favorite activity was hunting; deer, rabbit, turkey or squirrel. What ever was in season, you could be sure to find him in the woods. There wasn’t much that could keep him from a hunting season. If it wasn’t time to hunt you would find him at a local pond catfish or crappie fishing. Mel provided for his family over the years as a self-employed painter, working until his body couldn’t take it anymore in 2006.
In retirement Mel cherished time with his family.
He is survived by his children; Michael (Kristine) Jenkins of Foristell, MO; Melissa (John) Duerr of House Springs, MO; and Melinda (Brett) Danielson of House Springs, MO. 6 Grandchildren; Behle, Keaton (Alyssa), Brent, Teala, Braylee and Brock. 1 Great Granddaughter Charlie Jenkins. 1 brother Leonard Jenkins of Lake Saint Louis, Mo, 3 Sisters; Joyce Snyder of St. Louis, MO, Judy Jenkins of Afton, MO and Sue Hoganmiller of Arnold, MO. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father John Jenkins, mother Mary (Kritzon) Jenkins, Brother Dennis Jenkins, Son Dennis William Jenkins and one granddaughter Sydney Danielson.
His body will be cremated at Michel Funeral Home with a private celebration of life to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make any donations to the Missouri Department of Conservation, PO Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102.
ARRANGEMENTS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MICHEL FUNERAL HOME.
So sorry to the news about Melvin’s passing. For families sent a lot of time together like picnics, playing cards, our fathers went hunting together.
Thank you. We appreciate the love.
Deepest Sympathies to the entire family
Deepest Condolences to the Jenkins family. Melvin was a great guy and full of fun, charm and concern for others. Our parents were lifelong friends and our families spent many good times at gatherings, picnics, events and holidays. So many memories at their house enjoying such talented musicians. Love to all the Jenkins and extended family! We remember all of you!
Mike, Missy, Mindy and families, i am so sorry.
I met Mel in May of 1962, as i went to work for the first time at White Bakery. Mel has been a beloved friend ever since. We played sand lot football and tennis. We also played league slow pitch softball and league bowling. St. Louis had a semi-pro football league for 1 year. Mel was one of the if not the smallest player on the team. But, he hit like a man twice his size. He was a heck of an athlete. I have not seen Mel much the last 10-15 years and that is my loss. Again I am so sorry and you have my condolences. I just wanted add a few things friends and family may not have known.
Thank you. We appreciate you sharing. Miss you Uncle Dave!!!

So sorry to learn of Melvin’s passing. Remembering all the fun times when we were kids – picnics, playing games while our folks played cards, swimming at the old swimming hole. And later on Karaoke at that corner bar on So. Broadway. Good memories
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Mel. He was a good man and will always be remembered with respect.
