Nettie Guieulia Butler , “Gui” , 99, passed peacefully from this earth on Saturday September 21st, 2024 at her home in Dogtown. She was grateful for her long life full of wonderful and varied experiences. Beloved daughter of the late, Mildred and Goebel McLain.
Dear mother of Sue Collier-Brannin (Greg), Scott Butler, Tammi Butler ( Daniel), proud grandmother to Jeremy Collier, Anna Liescheidt, Ashlee Brannin and the late Joshua Collier , and joyous great grandmother, too, Quinn and Olivia Collier.
She was raised in a small, eastern Illinois town, called Olney, home of the white squirrel. In the early 1950s she moved with her parents to the city of St. Louis. She worked at International Shoe and spent the majority of her years as an insurance underwriter for Safeco, United Van Lines, and other smaller insurance companies in St. Louis. She also volunteered at , English as a second language classes, in Clayton. Once a week for over a decade , she babysat the children of those women learning English. She adored everyone she came into contact with in the program.
Nettie was blessed with a long life. She loved to travel, especially to California. There she could slow down and behold the creator through the majesty of nature. Nettie was a huge sports fan. The last year of her life was basically watching sports every day. She loved golf, SEC football, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Most recently she enjoyed the 2024 Olympics, but said she missed watching the most decorated Olympian in history. She loved St. Louis and enjoyed visits to the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, Laumeier sculpture park, going to Cardinals games, and the annual balloon race in Forest Park.
