Steven Simonic, born and raised in St. Louis, passed away Monday, October 12, surrounded by his loving family.
Steve (or to many “Stymie”) was born in St. Louis on November 2, 1960, to Ima “Jean” (Simonic) Overkamp and Anton “Tony” Simonic.
Steve had several long-time careers – first in the restaurant industry and then in the construction industry where he worked until retirement.
Many will remember Steve for his love of the outdoors, camping, boating, tossing horseshoes, bocce, and his hobby with slot cars – creating tracks that were so realistic you felt you were at an actual track. As a dad, he took the utmost pride in his children’s accomplishments in life. Most of all, he loved being G-Paw to his two grandsons, who shared his passion for slot car racing.
Those left to cherish his memory include, former wife/friend, Donna Simonic; children – Joseph Simonic and Stephanie Simonic; sister Laura (Simonic) Grant, and her husband Steve and their daughter, Sophia; grandchildren, Milo (Simonic) Parker and Ryder (Simonic) Maples; aunt Juanita Henry, and many loving cousins. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention his love for Cooper, the family Golden Retriever.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 at Michel Funeral Home, 5930 Southwest Avenue; no formal services will be performed as this will be a celebration of life.
